Events & Ceremonies
Deep dives into every Scrum event. Explore facilitation techniques, ownership, preparation checklists, tips, and expected outcomes.
The Sprint
The containing event
The Sprint is the heartbeat of Scrum — a fixed-length container within which all other events occur and ideas are turned into value. Every Sprint is a short project with a consistent cadence that creates rhythm, predictability, and regular opportunities to inspect and adapt.
Sprint Planning
Initiating the Sprint
Sprint Planning initiates the Sprint by defining the why, what, and how. The entire Scrum Team collaborates to set a Sprint Goal, select Product Backlog items, and create a plan for delivering them. This is where the team aligns on purpose and commits to a shared objective.
Daily Scrum
The daily sync
The Daily Scrum is a 15-minute event for the Developers to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the Sprint Backlog as necessary. It’s not a status report — it’s a daily planning session where the team creates a collective plan of attack for the next 24 hours.
Sprint Review
Inspecting the Increment
The Sprint Review is where the Scrum Team presents the results of their work to key stakeholders and progress toward the Product Goal is discussed. It’s a working session — not a presentation or demo theater. The goal is to generate genuine feedback that informs what the team does next.
Sprint Retrospective
Continuous improvement
The Sprint Retrospective is where the Scrum Team inspects how the last Sprint went with regards to individuals, interactions, processes, tools, and the Definition of Done. It’s the engine of continuous improvement — the most impactful improvements are addressed as soon as possible and may be added to the next Sprint Backlog.
